Week 5 Waiver Wire: WR & TE

by Ryan Skolrud

Wide Receiver

Geronimo Allison – Owned 43.1% on ESPN

Allison has proved to be a very capable receiver this season in the Green Bay offense. He has yet to finish a game with less than 64 yards and has 2 TDs on the season. He is dealing with a concussion that he suffered in the game against Buffalo this past Sunday, which is concerning since this is his second documented concussion of his pro career. If he can get through concussion protocol, he will gain even more reps and targets as the WR2 in an Aaron Rodgers offense with Randall Cobb perpetually on the injury report (currently with a hamstring injury). If he is not owned in your league, you need to pick him up today!

Dede Westbrook – 12.5% Owned

Westbrook was drafted in 2017 to be the WR of the future for the Jaguars. Toward the end of the year Keelan Cole seemed to be taking that role and has been the more popular WR to own in the Jacksonville receiving corps. Westbrook has been pretty consistent this year so far finishing with 10, 17, 6, and 21 points. The 6 point performance in week 3 was a tough matchup against a Titans defense that has shut down some tough passing attacks this year. Look for Westbrook to continue the consistent play with opportunities for breakout games along the way.

Taywan Taylor – 3.9% Owned

Taylor has moved himself right into the WR2 position behind Corey Davis with the departure of Rishard Matthews. While Taylor is more of a deep league addition, the Titans passing game is starting to get going with Mariota getting more healthy. Taylor is a talented route runner who has always been know for his speed. He can run the fly route as well as maneuver from a bubble screen. if you are needing some bench depth at WR and need a guy who could pop for a big game because of his playmaking ability, Taywan Taylor is a name to look at.

Keke Coutee – .5% Owned

Unless you are a Texans fan, you may be saying, “WHO????”. Coutee was Houtson’s 4th round pick in the recent NFL draft and was inactive the first 3 games of the season. Stepping in once Will Fuller went down with a hamstring issue, Coutee finished the game with 11 catches on 15 targets for 109 yards. As long as Fuller is out, count on KeKe to get a ton of work in an offense that will be continually throwing the ball around the yard.

Tight End

Vance McDonald – 31.4% Owned

McDonald is proving to be a regular part of the Pittsburgh offense. although 5 targets a game may not seem like a lot, it is a consistency that we have not seen in years from Steeler TEs. Even with Jesse James as the other TE, McDonald is getting the more consistent target-share as James’ targets have gone down to one target per game since McDonald came back from injury. If you are looking for a streamer that could turn into a regular contributor to your fantasy lineup, look no further than Vance McDonald.

Cameron Brate – 10.6% Owned

There are two things that factor into me encouraging you to pick up Brate. First, OJ Howard has a sprained MCL and will be out 2-4 weeks. Second, Jameis Winston has been named the starting QB for the Buccaneers again. While Howard getting back into the lineup will take some looks away from Brate again, Winston has a trust in Brate that he doesn’t even have in Mike Evans. With Jameis as the QB, Cameron Brate almost finished as a top 5 TE in 2016. He was off to a good start in 2017 until Winston was knock out of the lineup with a torn up shoulder. Fitzpatrick favored throwing to OJ Howard and it showed in the box scores. With Winston back, look for Brate to show top 10 TE form again.

Geoff Swaim – 0.4% Owned

This is a deep league, desperation addition to the list. Swaim is not going to light up your roster and put you over the top in your fantasy league for the rest of the year. However, as one of the only consistent receiving targets for an erratic Dak Prescott, he makes for at least a dart throw with all of the injuries to TEs this week. Also, Houston has given up the 8th most fantasy points to TEs so far in 2018.
