Fantasy Outlook: Jarvis Landry

by Chris Kuhn

Jarvis Landry has been one of the most solid fantasy wide receivers through the majority of his career, never even missing a single game. However, he had some trouble keeping his production up during his first year in Cleveland with a rookie passing to him. Last year, Landry had fewer catches than any other year of his career and only four touchdowns after having nine in the previous year. Landry’s quarterback situation should greatly improve with Baker Mayfield having another year of experience.

Although Landry’s fantasy value faces a much bigger problem than quarterback play, with the trade for Odell Beckham Jr., Landry will most likely be playing second fiddle and taking in fewer targets. Anyone who has had Landry on their fantasy team in a PPR league knows he makes his points off of receptions. In 2017 alone he had 112. Landry will have Beckham Jr. taking a lot of those receptions away. Plus, the Browns also have David Njoku, who will be a major Red Zone threat taking away Landry’s ability to pick up production with touchdowns.

The Browns have greatly improved on a lot of positions and look to be more competitive than in the past. As the Browns will likely be running down the clock in the 4th quarter with their power running back duo in Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, there will be less garbage time points to be scored.

The Browns are a new team this year. Because of this, it appears Landry’s production will continue to go down even with the Browns likely scoring more points. Landry’s one benefit to his longtime friend Odell Beckham Jr. joining the team is that for the first time in a long time Landry will not have the opponent’s top corner covering him, giving him more opportunity to get open.

With two superstar wide receivers, a great tight end and one of the best running back duos in the league, the Browns have so much offensive firepower and only one ball to go around. The fantasy points are going to be spread thin amongst these players, making Baker Mayfield by far the safest Cleveland Brown to draft in 2019.
