Week 3 RB Duds – Ryer Gardenswartz

by Ryer Gardenswartz

Week 3 is upon us!

Things are starting to shape up in the NFL. We are starting to get a better idea of who is the real deal and who can be seen as an afterthought. However, there are still a lot of unknowns that need to be sorted out. I look at two top-20 running backs that could struggle to produce in week 3.

Le’Veon Bell – New York Jets (@ New England)

Bell’s start as a Jet has been a mixed bag. He was able to put up 129 all-purpose yards against the Browns in week 2, but saw his team lose another QB and struggle offensively. After voicing his frustration about the 0-2 start, things don’t get any easier for the Jets in week 3 as they’ll travel to Foxborough and see the Patriots. The Pats defense has had a strong start to the season allowing only three points in two games, albeit one was against the Dolphins. As the Jets move to their 3rd quarterback, the focus will shift to Bell. I expect Belichick to make life very difficult on Bell and let Luke Falk try and air it out. The Jets are simply overpowered in week 3 and Bell will likely be the focal point for the Patriots D.

Mark Ingram – Baltimore Ravens (@ Kansas City)

Ingram had a strong week 1 against the Dolphins (not surprisingly) but slowed down in his week 2 matchup against the Cardinals. This week’s matchup between the Ravens and Chiefs figures to be a shootout. Unfortunately for Ingram owners, that means Lamar Jackson will likely be dropping back a lot in this game to keep up with Patrick Mahomes. While Ingram will still see the field plenty, he isn’t much a threat in the passing game. Through the first two weeks he has only seen two targets. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Ravens try to control the clock and utilize Ingram early in the game, but if things start going south, then Ingram will likely be a non-factor.
