Carlos Sainz Jr. (25) signed a two-year-long deal with Ferrari’s Formula One team for, as reported by Formula One’s official website. The news came just two days after on Tuesday the Italian team announced that, after a presumed unanimous decision, they would be parting ways with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Sainz, who currently drives for McLaren, has been the main subject of speculations over Vettel’s vacant seat for 2021 and onwards. Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Alpha Romeo’s Antonio Giovinnazi were among the other leading contenders for Scuderia’s prestigious seat, while Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were also honorably mentioned by analysts.
The Spaniard has participated in 102 races, achieving only one podium for McLaren in 2019. Nevertheless, Carlos finished 6th in the 2019 championship, scoring right behind Vettel’s disappointing 5th place. Before moving to McLaren, Sainz has previously raced for Toro Rosso (2015-2017) and Renault (2017-2018).
Let us all congratulate this young man on his new racing suit! The Tifosi welcome you, Carlos!
