The UFC 251 main card is taking place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The Pay-Per-View card is scheduled to start at 10pm est. The card will consist of three championship title fights. Here is a look at what to expect for UFC’s debut at Fight Island:
Paige Van Zant vs. Amanda Ribas
Paige Van Zant has expressed her issues with the UFC and her contract situation. It is important for her and her status that she goes out on a high note. This is her last fight on her current UFC contract. There is a chance this is her last UFC fight. After inconsistencies and injuries, she feels good and wants to capitalize. For Ribas, she has a lot of potential and is hoping to climb the ranks. She has some impressive wins and is looking to add to that with a win against Van Zant. She is favorited highly in this matchup. This fight is just as interesting as the others.
Andrade Vs. Namajunas 2
In an anticipated rematch, Rose Namajunas hopes to redeem herself after an unfortunate head slam loss. She is eyeing a title shot against Weili Zhang. First, she needs to beat a skilled grappler and black belt in Jessica Andrade. Andrade lost her last fight against Zhang and is hoping to get back on track to holding the belt also. Namajunas is the fighter I would bet on in this anticipated rematch.
Petr Yan Vs. Jose Aldo
Yan has had a really impressive stretch of fights, so it’s no surprise he is the favorite. He faces the legendary Jose Aldo. Aldo should not be taken lightly and he should put up a real threat to Yan, who only has one loss. Aldo is coming off of two losses and is looking to make it clear he deserved the opportunity. This fight is for the vacant bantamweight title after Henry Cejudo retired his win against Dominick Cruz.
Max Holloway Vs. Alexander Volkanovski
After the close battle in their last matchup, Max Holloway is looking for redemption. This could be a real defensive chess match. Both fighters are among the best and I imagine this fight to go the distance. With Volkanovski not having lost a fight in the UFC yet, Holloway has his work cut out for him to take back the belt. It’s also been reported that Holloway has had to train relatively alone during the pandemic. It will be interesting if that will play a role in his performance.
Kamaru Usman Vs. Jorge Masvidal
This is one of the fights I’ve been looking forward to all year. Masvidal has proven worthy of a title shot and now his contract situation is settled. These two have bad blood and this should be one of the most electric fights of the year. Masvidal is looking to move atop the welterweight division on a weeks notice. Usman is looking to extend his title defense after stopping Colby Covington. This matchup was announced after Gilbert Burns tested positive for COVID-19.
