Earlier today the Formula One’s Official website reported that Sergio Perez is currently self-isolating after an “inconclusive test for Covid-19”. The Racing Point driver, however, just tested positive after a second test was conducted. Up until now, no other drivers have tested positive for the virus, which has allowed for a smooth racing atmosphere.
As expected, Sergio Perez will automatically miss the next two weekends in Silverstone – the British GP and the 70th Anniversary GP. He would have to follow the strict FIA quarantine procedures, while receiving medical treatment.
Fortunately for Racing Point, they are allowed to use the service of Mercedes’ testing drivers, Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez, in case any of their drivers encounter health or personal emergencies. However, it is more likely that Gutierrez will be replacing Perez for the next two race weekends, due to Vandoorne’s busy schedule as a Formula E driver.
Racing Point shared in a statement that Perez appears to be in a good physical health, “Sergio is physically well and in good spirits, but he will continue to self-isolate under the guidelines of the relevant public health authorities, with safety the ultimate priority for the team and the sport”.
SkullKing Sports wishes Checo quick recovery, and we are hoping to see him back on the track soon! We will keep you posted on the subject.
