Past and Prime on Display at UFC 252

When you look at the UFC 252 lineup, there are a lot of interesting aspects. There is a tie breaking trilogy fight between legends, a co-main event featuring an undefeated superstar in the making, perhaps the future of the heavyweight division, and a newly ranked bantamweight fighter that is on a hot streak. On Saturday, there will be some new names in the mix, while some old ones will get one last curtain call.

It’s conclusive Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will most likely retire after this match up. The heavyweight division will open up once the belt is vacated. Jairzinho Rozenstruik is one name that should be heavily considered. Until his loss against Francis Ngannou, he was undefeated and quickly rising up the ranks. Rozenstruik is hungry for a title shot and if he wins his fight Saturday against Junior Dos Santos, he should at least be considered.

Then there is Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. These are newly ranked fighters and a win could help their case towards the top. Sean O’Malley is looking to halt Marlon Vera’s hot streak. Vera, was on a three fight win streak until his controversial loss against Song Yadong. Sean O’Malley is looking to become a superstar. Vera, can definitely be the one to spoil that. This is a Bantamweight match up that should give a real boost to whoever pulls off the victory.

Merab is on a four fight win streak and is hoping to extend it against John Dodson. Dodson has a couple losses in his past few fights. One of these losses was to current champion Petr Yan. He has gone against some impressive fighters and this can be a real test for the Georgian. Dodson has fought for the Flyweight title and will be competing for the 17th time in the UFC.

This card is extremely intriguing on so many different levels. At the end of the night, we could see two ambassadors of the sport walk away. We will also get a glimpse at what the future holds for multiple divisions. The fights will start be on ESPN+ PPV at 10 pm. eastern on August 15th.
