Blue Jackets Tie Series with Lightning 1-1

Was it just me who held their breath, when the Lightning tied up the game yesterday in Period 1, remembering the marathon of 5 Overtimes looming from just two days before?  That second goal by Bejorkstrand was an amazing trickshot, and the third by Wennberg allowed us as Blue Jackets fans to breathe, they had this game in the net.  It was a great game, but thankfully not as eventful or long as Tuesdays, history-making game.

It is also notable to mention that Cam Atkinson, a pivotal player, was out for this second game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  As a refresher from Tuesday had had a collision in the net during the 5th, and final, overtime.  ( cbssports.com/fantasy/hockey/news/blue-jackets-cam-atkinson-unfit-to-play-thursday/)  We hope to see him back when the Blue Jackets and Lightning meet again on Saturday evening at 7:30 PM.

With Elvis Merzlikins still out as well, Joonas Korpisalo has held his own very well, stopping all but 1 short taken on his goal yesterday.  The man now holds the records for total saves, 85, in an NHL Playoff Game, surpassing the record of 74 Tuesday.  He continues to make Columbus proud, proving why that record is now his and could be for a very long time.  We’ll see how far this team goes in these unique playoffs, but being this is his first year as a starter in the NHL, already being an All-Star, and having a major record like this, it will be awesome to see where the next two signed years with the CBJ take him.

This Team is still very solid, and even with that marathon of a game Tuesday, it’s amazing they are like it never happened.  Mentally they are still focused on one goal, getting to the next round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Physically they are ready for the next round and more.  It’s impressive that these men are so prepared in a time when a lot of us don’t feel we can be.  It is a testament to each man individually, but also the cohesion of this team, and John Tortorella who leads them.

Sunday night is a new game, a new opportunity to win and lead this series for the first time, but also the same opportunity to lose and give the Lightning and edge up and confidence.  Each game is a must-win, and that can drive this team to push harder with each period as they charge forward in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoff.

Again, Game 3 puck drop is set for Saturday, August 15th at 7:30 PM.

All One.

Go Jackets!
