The Columbus Blue Jackets keep right on rolling with change, last night we learned in an already busy day that another trade has been made. Ryan Murray, a main Blue Jacket Defenseman, will leave for the New Jersey Devils organization this upcoming 2020 – 2021 season, in exchange the Blue Jackets have secured their 2021 NHL Draft 5th Round Pick. This may come as a bit of a shock to most fans, I know I was surprised, as it has been a heavy day of trading and deals already, but always remember it is due to free agency opening today! Free up money and space for the players you want, or you run the chance of missing out, kind of like NHL Black Friday in comparison.
So, we lose a man who had 347 game starts since joining the Blue Jackets, having been selected by the organization in the 2012 Draft at #2 in Round 1. Now 27 years of age, he gave the Blue Jackets a total of 110 points, composing of only 15 goals but a high amount of assists at 95. I think the Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen said it best tonight when announcing this news: “Ryan is a very good player and quality person and we thank him for everything he has done as a member of our organization and wish him well in the future.” (https://www.nhl.com/bluejackets/news/blue-jackets-trade-ryan-murray-to-new-jersey-for-fifth-round-pick/c-319395130).
Good luck Ryan!
