Zach Zenner, an eighth round draft pick; essentially the round where you sign players that weren’t drafted, has the possibility of being a fan favorite. I mean everyone loves an underdog story. And sometimes players who go to smaller schools have a tendency to go overlooked. This guy went to South Dakota State. At 5’11 and 223 pounds, Zenner has rushed for over 2,000 yards in the last three seasons for the Jackrabbits. And out of the 160 draft eligible running backs, Zach did register a top ten SPARQ score. Ameer Abdullah receiving the number 1 spot on that is worth nothing, as he was drafted by the Lions. When tested against power 5 conference schools, he rushed for over one hundred yards each time proving he can hang with top tier talent. He will have some work to do to break into that 53 man roster because Detroit already has good depth at the position. His chance to prove himself will start tomorrow, at the Lion’s 3 day rookie mini-camp. And I would assume to break into that 5 deep position they ran with last year, he will have to uproot Winn and prove he is better than him.
