TEs: Who to Target later

by Dante Pitts

The season is upon us and your draft board is starting get rearranged. Although there has been a bevy of injuries, most of the tight ends have come out unscathed. I’ll drop you a few names you should consider for your draft.

  1. Austin Hooper – I predict that Atlanta is going to be one of the best offenses in the NFL, and Hooper should benefit from that. In Atlanta’s preseason outing, Hooper looked solid reeling in one catch for 12 yards. He will be looking to improve on his 19-271-3 stat line from last season.
  2. Hunter Henry – I said it once, and I’ll say it again, Hunter Henry should be poised for a big year. He had 8 touchdowns last season and should only be looking to build off of it. He caught a 17 yard pass during the Chargers pre-season outing versus the Seahawks and played with the starters indicating the team will utilize him a lot this season.
  3. Eric Ebron – Ebron had career highs in receptions (61) and yards (711) but failed to reach the end zone after week 1. With Anquan Boldin gone, we can only hope that Ebron will see more red zone targets. I would say that Ebron is low 1 tight end and a borderline sleeper play.

O.J. Howard – Previously I said that O.J. Howard was a lock for this season fantasy wise, well I’m changing my mind (because I am a human, and I am allowed to do so). Howard will still be competing with Cameron Brate and DeSean Jackson, and Mike Evans. If Howard was starting I would say that he is a lock, but otherwise I would avoid him.

Coby Fleener – I still the pain of picking Coby Fleener last season under the impression that he was going to make huge strides in a New Orleans offense that saw Ben Watson be successful. I would avoid Fleener as he ended being the 15th ranked TE in PPR leagues.
