Waiver Wire Week 4 – Justin Skolrud

by Justin Skolrud

QB – Eli Manning currently owned in 17.3% of leagues

We have been big believers in Eli leading up to this season because of the off-season acquisitions of Evan Engram and Brandon Marshall. He has had rough games to start the season. But, if the Giants are going to move the ball on offense it’s going to be in the passing game and if your look for a spot starter to have a streaming start Eli is your guy.

QB – DeShaun Watson currently owned in 11.9% of leagues

Watson was a deep sleeper in our projections early this year due to his leadership and running ability. He has risen to the occasion time and time again in college. With a great performance against New England and a late score away from becoming the first rookie to beat Bill Belichick and with teams like the Titans who just gave up a career day to Wilson, the Brown who are the Browns, and Seattle may not be the defense we thought they were.

QB- Carson Palmer currently owned in 18% of leagues

Carson Palmer has thrown for 300+ yards in each of the last two games and with the running game the way it is in the absence of David Johnson your looking at another pass heavy situation much like Eli. Palmer also has an easy schedule coming up against the 49ers who gave up a ton of yards in the air to Goff, Philly who is injured at the corner position, and Tampa Bay who just got torched by Case Keenum.

RB – Chris Carson currently owned in 42.7% of leagues.

Carson is the lead back and should be owned in every league. He drew a tough matchup with the Titans and the game script flipped to be heavily pass oriented and he was still involved. Carson will continue to be the feature back with solid flex-play potential.

RB – Alvin Kamara currently owned in 11.3% of leagues

I have talked a lot about Kamara’s involvement in the Saints offense. He will get the ball about 10 times a game with most of that involvement being in the passing game. More of a PPR add than Standard but I would rather have Kamara than Peterson.

RB – Jamaal Charles currently owned in 22.2% of leagues

Yes, THAT, Jamaal Charles who has struggled to stay healthy over the last two years. But CJ Anderson has never had a season of more than 180 carries and is currently on pace for over 250 carries and I think you will see more of Charles moving forward to keep Andersons carries down. Charles was also more productive with his carries and could overtake Anderson if he continues to be more productive.

WR – Sterling Shepard currently owned in 32.3% of leagues

With Brandon Marshall continuing to struggle and really only productive this week Sterling Shepard has been more consistent and if Eli is going to continue to throw the ball like this last week Shepard is the clear number two. He has some tough matchups coming up but the number two receiver for Manning has always been fantasy relevant.

WR – Mohamed Sanu currently owned in 39.3% of leagues.

Sanu has been incredibly consistent so far through the first 3 weeks scoring 10, 13, and 12 points. Although his share of volume has dipped for Sanu his weeks 6-9 have some great match-ups against some defenses that struggle against the pass.

WR – Jermaine Kearse currently owned in 34.4% of leagues

Even with the dip in points this last week Kearse is still the best WR in the passing game. Kearse draws a tough match up this week against Jacksonville but after that its smooth sailing against Cleveland, New England and Miami.

TE – Ben Watson currently owned in 3% of leagues

This last week was not a good week for anyone on the Ravens offense not named Watson and Watson was saved by a garbage timeout. On the podcast we have talked about how the London game can be a tough game to play or predict for players considering the time zone change and the change in routine because of it. Now that he is stateside and the possibility of Ryan Mallet seeing more action Watson continues to prove value at the TE position.

TE – Vernon Davis currently owned in 5.1% of leagues

If Jordan Reed struggles to get on the field Vernon Davis is the Tight End “handcuff” to own. Davis has chemistry with Cousins and with Cousins heating up I am buying on all things Washington right now.

DEF – Washington Redskins

Washington has played very well to start the season in getting turnovers in every game against quality teams including DISMANTLING the Raiders and their potent offense. The only thing I don’t like about this add is that it is a one week rental with the bye week coming in week 5.
