Week 14 Waiver Wire: QB – Ryan Skolrud

By Ryan Skolrud

The time for the fantasy playoffs has come! In many cases, your fantasy roster should be pretty well set. However, for those of you who have been streaming quarterbacks, or have been dealing with injuries to the quarterback position all season, we have a couple options for you to look at for the first round of the fantasy playoffs.

Baker Mayfield – owned in 47.2% of ESPN leagues

Well this past week against Houston was not his best fantasy performance, Mayfield still put up some decent stats for the week finishing with 397 pass yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. In his defense, Houston was the fourth-best DST against the quarterback position in fantasy football coming into week 13.

Baker gets a friendlier matchup in week 14 going up against a Carolina defense that is the 6th worst and giving it fantasy points to the quarterback position. According to statroute.com, the troubled Panthers have given up at least two touchdown passes to nine different quarterbacks in 2018 and given up at least four touchdown passes to four different quarterbacks including Eli Manning who’s had a horrible season. if you need a quarterback for the first round of the fantasy playoffs you could make a worst decision then grabbing Baker Mayfield.

Josh Allen – owned in 3.7% of fantasy leagues

I never thought that I would be suggesting to Fantasy owners to pick up Josh Allen for their teams, especially for the fantasy playoffs. That being said, Allen has had two consecutive games of 26 + fantasy points, throwing three TD passes, running for one himself, as well as rushing for 234 yards over those two games. Most of the value in Allen’s game comes from his ability to run the ball, much like Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

The matchup for the rookie quarterback this week is very favorable against in New York Jets defense that looked promising earlier in the year. However, they have given up two touchdown passes to 9 different quarterbacks, and a QB rating of at least 95 to 8 different quarterbacks. Let’s also not forget that in week 15 the Bills go up against a Lions defense that has also given up two touchdown passes to nine different quarterbacks and a passer rating of at least 99 to all nine of those quarterbacks.
