Marquise Brown
5’ 10” 168 pounds
2018 Statistics
75 rec, 1,318 yd, 10 TDs
Strengths:
Speed- He is a speed demon of a player, an out right burner that can fly past defenders for the long 7 points. He has a similar NFL comp to Will Fuller, despite Fuller being little taller.
Football IQ- He knows how to use his speed to his advantage. As a slot type of receiver for Oklahoma he was a nightmare to cover.
Great Hands- He is able to adjust to the ball well to make the catch. With his speed and the sure nature of his hands, he is a major big play threat for any team.
Weaknesses:
50-50 passes against NFL corners- Due to his size he could struggle to catch the balls a taller receiver might be able to catch. This could hinder him against bigger defenders in the NFL.
Lacks of Size – Similar to the point above, his size could become an issue when facing off against much taller and stronger corners. This could hinder how explosive he is off the line.
Injury – Marquise had surgery in the off season to fix a Lisfranc break in his foot suffered in the Big 12 Championship game. We will see how long it takes for him to recover and be ready for training camp.
Summary:
Marquise Brown is a first round talent that teams will have to manage around. Playing a slot role could prove a hard task for defenses as he can blow coverage over the top with his speed, or simply outrun defense for first downs on short passes. Due to his size he could be injury prone as NFL players are tougher than what he has faced in college. He also played BIG 12 defenses, and anyone that watches college football knows defense is not a thing in BIG 12. Although his talent provides big play potential, he still might not be able to make the 50/50 catches that are highly important for an offense. Overall he is a stunning player any team would love to have.
