The circus that is the New York Jets continues to entertain the masses. The organization just fired their General Manager, Mike Maccagnan, after letting him hire new coach Adam Gase, prepare and go through the NFL Draft, and then work through free agency. They have since named the new Head Coach as the interim GM.
Rumors of disputes between the coach and GM about player personnel decisions and their compensation have arisen with Gase wanting a higher paid Center to anchor his offensive line, while the Maccagnan went and spent the money on RB Le’Veon Bell.
Now it is being reported by Bleacher Report, as well as other publications and websites, that John Clayton of ESPN has been quoted as saying that he can see the Jets trading away their newly acquired RB now that Adam Gase has been given the power to make those personnel choices.
Considering the amount of money spent on Le’Veon by the Jets (maximum of $61 million over 4 years) and that other teams were only willing to pay him $8-9 million per season, it may be very difficult for New York to find a trade partner to take on the contract without giving up draft capital in the process.
People are already calling for entrepreneur and marketing guru Gary Vaynerchuk to buy the Jets, however, he is admittedly still a ways away from having the capital to do so.
The rest of this preseason should be a lot of fun to watch, maybe not so much if you are a Jets fan though.
