RB Waiver Wire Targets: Week 11 – Zavier Gussett

by Zavier Gussett

Brian Hill, Atlanta Falcons: (Currently owned in 0.7% of ESPN Leagues)

Brian Hill looks like he will be the lone back in the Falcon’s backfield after Devonta Freeman left Sunday’s game with a foot sprain, and Ito Smith was placed on Injured Reserve, ending his season.  With Freeman’s injury leaving him out for at least 2 weeks, Hill could become a go-to option in Atlanta’s offense after being given 21 total touches for 62 yards and a touchdown this past week against the Saints.  Give Hill your top waiver priority this week, as he should handle most of the ground work against a Panthers defense allowing the 3rd most yards-per-carry.

J.D. McKissic, Detroit Lions: (Currently owned in 16.0% of ESPN Leagues)

Just one week after dropping a career-high 16.2 PPR points against Oakland, McKissic managed another double-digit point week, with 11.5 despite playing against a strong Bears front seven.  After season-ending injuries to Kerryon Johnson and Tra Carson, Ty Johnson left Sunday’s game with a concussion as well, allowing McKissic to take over the backfield while accounting for 70% of the backfield’s snaps.  McKissic has been mostly a receiving back Detroit’s offense, but could be someone to keep an eye on for lineups this week against the Cowboys, who have allowed the 3rd most receptions to runningbacks this season.

Derrius Guice, Washington Redskins: (Currently owned in 34.8% of ESPN Leagues)

With the Redskins activating Derrius Guice off of their injured reserve during their past bye week, Guice is a player who could be vaulted into a big role in the Redskins offense. Even with veteran Adrian Peterson proving capable of handling a workhorse role, the former 2nd round pick’s talent should help him develop a role in the offense quickly.  Guice’s upside makes him a must add entering week 11, as interim Head Coach Bill Callahan has given Washington’s offense a much more run-heavy approach compared to the west coast style of previous play caller Jay Gruden.  Expect Guice to become a weekly RB2 option when healthy this season with key games against the Jets, Lions, Panthers, and Giants over the last stretch of your fantasy football season.
