Pop, Lock, & Drop It: Week 11 QBs – CJ Krause

by CJ Krause

Welcome back after the Bye-pocalypse! The home stretch is here! Whether you’re fighting for a playoff spot or battling for a bye, every decision is crucial from here on out. So let’s do this!

Let’s break it down a bit:

A “Pop”- a quarterback outside the Top 15 who I believe has Top 5 upside this week.
A “Lock”- a quarterback that, without injury, I cannot see finishing outside the Top 5 this week.
A “Drop It”- a Top 5 quarterback that has the best chance of finishing outside the Top 12 this week.

As always, we are using 4-points-per-passing-touchdown/-1-points-per-interception scoring.

Pop: Derek Carr vs. Cin

With extra time to prepare, I expect the Gruden Grinders to come out HOT versus a terrible Cincinnati Bengals defense. Since coming out of his bye, Carr has also been QB9 from Weeks 7 to 10, so we have seen a steady improvement in his performances. With the Bengals allowing the 3rd most points to opposing quarterbacks, I think this is a recipe for Carr to Pop off!

FLASH FACT! No quarterback since Week 4 has finished outside the Top 12 in fantasy points scored versus the Bengals.

Honorable Mentions: Drew Brees vs. TB and Jimmy G vs. Ari

Lock: Dak Prescott vs. Det

Coming off a tough loss versus the Vikings on SNF, look for Dak to bounce back in a big way this week versus the Lions. Detroit is allowing the 6th most points scored to fantasy quarterbacks, AND over the last 5 weeks, on average, 4.3 more points than the quarterbacks’ season average. That combination paired with Darius Slay not looking like the Slay Island of Old, expect Dak and Amari to connect all game long.

FLASH FACT! In 2018 Slay was Ranked 4th in coverage rating per Player Profiler, but in 2019, he was ranked 24th.

Honorable Mention: Lamar Jackson vs. Hou

Drop It: Kyler Murray vs. SF

Okay raise your hand if you knew Kyler was 5th on the year in quarterback points scored. *Sees no hands raised* Yeah, me neither, but here we are. The rookie sensation in Kliff Kingsbury’s Air Raid offense is sitting at Number 5, but here comes a big problem: the elite San Francisco run defense. San Fran is allowing the 2nd least points scored to fantasy quarterbacks, behind only the New England Patriots. Expect Kyler to struggle in this game with turnovers and sacks.

FLASH FACT! The 49ers have more games allowing less than 100 passing yards (3) than allowing more than 200 passing yards (2).

Honorable Mention: Deshaun Watson vs. BAL
