With the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft, the New York Mets selected Pete Crow-Armstrong, an outfielder out of Harvard-Westlake High School in California.

Crow-Armstrong is the sixth first-round pick for the Mets in the past five seasons. Of the Mets past five first-round picks, only two of them are still in the organization — third baseman Brett Baty (2019, No. 12 overall) and left-handed pitcher David Peterson (2017, No. 20 overall).

Of the other three, two of them, Jarred Kelenic (2019, No. 6 overall) and Justin Dunn (2016, No. 19 overall), were sent to Seattle in the deal that brought Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the Mets. The other one, Anthony Kay (2016, No. 31 overall), was sent to Toronto in the deal that got the Mets Marcus Stroman.

An 18-year-old, he’s the third-straight high school player the Mets have taken in the first round.

He’s a lefty on both sides of the ball and he projects to be a contact, speed and fielding player in the big leagues. According to MLB.com, he grades out at 55 hit, 40 power, 60 run, 60 field and 55 arm. Ultimately, he’s a 50 graded overall player, and he’s MLB.com’s No. 20 ranked prospect heading into this draft.

He played on the 2019 U-18 National Team for the United States, where in nine games he hit .364/.405/.606, scoring nine runs and stealing four bases along the way. He was named the 2019 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup All-World Center Fielder.

The Mets have five picks remaining in the draft — No. 52, No. 69, No. 91, No. 120 and No. 150 overall.
