Lewis Hamilton Wins the Spanish GP
Lewis Hamilton won the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix in Catalunya. The Mercedes driver finished at over 24 second ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Lewis’ teammate Valtteri Bottas had a slower starting reaction, which cost him the second position, and ultimately put him last on the podium. Nevertheless, Bottas managed to get the fastest lap of the race with an additional pit stop just 2 laps before the checkered flag.
Lance Stroll with Racing Point finished 5th, however, his teammate Sergio Perez was given a 5-second penalty from 4th for ignoring blue flags, which was enough for Lance to take P4 in the leaderboard. Carlos Sainz finished in P6 for McLaren, ahead of Sebastian Vettel in 7th place. Vettel started 11th but optimized his alternative tire strategy and managed to score some solid points with his Ferrari. Alex Albon did not have a particularly great day, and Red Bull’s alternative tire strategy for him was only good enough for P8 in Barcelona. Pierre Gasly with Alpha Tauri and Lando Norris with McLaren completed the top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo missed on the points today by finishing 11th, ahead of Daniil Kvyat for Alpha Tauri. Ricciardo’s teammate Esteban Ocon managed to keep his 13th position ahead of Kimi Raikkonen for Alfa Romeo. Kimi started 14th and finished 14, which was his second best result so far in this difficult for him season. Raikkonen also became the driver to have driven the longest distance in Formula One’s history on lap 37. Kevin Magnussen finished in P15 for Haas, ahead of Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi. Williams’ George Russell and Nicholas Latifi placed 17th and 18th, respectively. Romain Grosjean with Haas was the last man to finish the Spanish GP in 19th place, while Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari had an electrical issue and switched its engine off mid-corner. After a slow spin, the Monegasque driver managed to re-start his machine but was forced to retire and give up on a comfortable points finish.
