2020 NHL Draft Overview- Round 1

Tonight’s 2020 NHL Draft reflected the times, as it now took place in early October, rather than late June as planned.  In Montreal Canada, the plans were to have a large celebration, but as with the NFL Draft not long ago, we saw the celebrations take a virtual form.  Different from any Draft in NHL history, but still amazing, as we watched young men achieve their dreams, advancing into their National Hockey League careers.

It was 2003 when we last saw such a high amount of Canadian players drafted, 19 that year, and 18 during this Round 1 in 2020.  It’s a great accomplishment for the program, grooming these young men into promising players, ones teams are willing to trade and fight for.  Below are the 31 first round picks via (https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2020/10/06/2020-nhl-draft-round-1-results/):

Round 2 – 7will take place tomorrow, check your local listings for times, and check back to Skullking Sports for the wrap up and any announcements.  Tonight we learned not only the top 31 Draft Picks for 2020, but also that the start of the NHL’s 2020 – 2021 season has been moved from a possible December 1 2020 start date, to now a January 1 2021 start.   What happened tonight and happens tomorrow will shape the NHL going forward, whenever the gear is picked up doesn’t matter, as we know it will be and we can’t wait!
