Wennberg 3 Year Contract Buyout by CBJ

The Columbus Blue Jackets are keeping busy in this unusual off season, making 2 trade deals already, and completing a full 2020 NHL Draft, the decisions just keep coming.  Today we not only had a trade of Nutivaara for Pu, between the Blue Jackets and Panthers, but we have now learned of a big contract buyout.  Late today it was announced that the remaining 3-year contract for Alexander Wennberg will be bought out by the Blue Jackets.  Originally this contract was double that time, 6-years, and inked in September of 2017, just a few years after he was taken first round in the 2013 NHL Draft at #14.  ( https://www.nhl.com/news/columbus-places-forward-alexander-wennberg-on-waivers-for-buyout/c-319386106)

Although a very strong player in his first few years, earning that long contract after a show in season 2016 – 2017, with 13 goals and 46 assists.  Sadly his ability to go beyond that has now been seen, and after waiting a few years with decreasing numbers, the organization has decided to let him fly.  His free agency will start tomorrow, as will everyone else, and although he hasn’t scored super high he did perform well in the 2020 playoffs.  Within the 10 games the Blue Jackets saw, he delivered 4 goals of his own, and assisted with 4 additional.  This will give him a good show I feel as he looks for a new home tomorrow for his skill and talent.  I look forward to seeing him on the ice again soon, doing well with a new team, we in the 5th line wish him all the best going forward.

Go CBJ!
