British F1 Poll Finds Vettel as the “Greatest of Our Era”

According to formula1news.co.uk, 53% of the people who answered their “Greatest Driver of Our Era” poll chose Sebastian Vettel as the winner. Despite his disastrous 2020 season, the Ferrari driver is a four-time world champion (2010-2013 with Red Bull), with 53 Grand Prix victories in his resume. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, only received 31% of the vote, which granted him the firm 2nd place behind Vettel.
This might come as a surprise to many, having in mind Hamilton’s record-matching 7 championships and all-time record 94 victories. Nevertheless, the terms “greatest” or “best” could be used pretty subjectively, with the implementation of personal preference and charisma. Hamilton is undoubtedly the most successful driver of modern era Formula One, however, achievements alone do not always grant you fans’ support and admiration.
For example, the majority of the remaining votes (16%) went to Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso. Both of them collectively have 3 championships, two for Alonso and just one for Kimi. Their victory count is also relatively low, 32 for Alonso and 21 for Kimi. And even so, fans voted for them because of their personalities, their skills, and the special meaning that they bring to the sport.
