BREAKING: Bears Hire New Defensive Coordinator
It was reported this evening this evening via twitter, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com the Chicago Bears are promoting Sean Desai to be their new defensive coordinator.
Big move for the #Bears: Chicago is hiring Sean Desai to be its new defensive coordinator, sources say. To my knowledge, the first person of Indian descent to become a coordinator in the NFL. They call him “Doc” for his doctorate at Temple, now they’ll also call him DC.

Desai is just 37 years old, and will serve as Chicago’s third defensive coordinator in the last four seasons. Desai previously served as the Bears safeties coach, and was instrumental in the development and ascension of pro-bowl safety, Eddie Jackson, to being among the league’s best at the position. Desai has drawn many comparisons to former LA Rams defensive coordinator, now Chargers head coach, Brandon Staley. Rapoport also believes Desai to be the first person of Indian decent to become a coordinator in the league, gaining huge momentum in the fight for diversity change among the ranks of the top coaching positons in the NFL.
