There has been a dark cloud over the Blue Jacket’s Franchise, since Goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks passed away Sunday, after a Firework incident. Today, their minor team, the Cleveland Monsters, took time to hold a fan funeral, for the fallen goaltender. Fans of the two teams Kivlenieks played for, shared stories and memories, as a way to heal together. While a jersey for the former player, stood on display, surrounded by signs fans has also brought.
A local funeral home, in the Cleveland area, Victoria Shea-Martens at the Walter Martens & Sons Funeral Home, even created and passed out prayer cards at the service. The namesake of the home is a devoted fan, and thought it was the right thing to do, for grieving fans, and as a special way to honor their fallen player. As a curtesy to fans, unable to attend todays memorial, they are offering to send out these prayer cards, to any fan who wishes to have one, free. You can contact them here: 216-281-7111 or via their website.
It was a beautiful gesture, and we all grieve together, as one team.
Rest in peace, Matiss Kivlenieks.
