Given the unfortunate circumstances of recent weeks, and the fact we can only protect one goaltender, from possible draft by the Kraken’s, this comes as no surprise to me. Cam Johnson, the twenty-seven-year-old goalie, who saw some action last year, has been resigned to the team again. His contract will last for one season only, and he will play in the AHL, but be available to the Blue Jackets, if needed. No doubt, you’ll remember his name from the taxi squad, during the 2020-2021 season. This is just like his deal last season, when he was used during a span of multiple, simultaneous, goaltender injuries.
With a 6-1-0 record, it’s a great choice to keep him. He will make a solid backup to either Merzlikins, or Korpisalo, and his 1.77 GAA backs that up, along with his .941 Save Average. These Stats come from his time last season, with the Florida Everglades. You can read more of his stats, at the link source above.
Now, all we can hope is that his minimal, but great goaltender record, doesn’t draw attention from a new, NHL team.
