It’s NHL Draft Day 2021 everyone!
The 5th overall pick belonged to the Blue Jackets tonight. They selected a center, from Michigan, named Kent Johnson. Michigan had several good players this year, and I am glad we took him, first.
With the 12th pick, which the club acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks, for Seth Jones, another center was selected. Cole Sillinger, a hometown boy from Columbus, and that is always exciting. We are finally getting a small Ohio base, in our Ohio hockey team. Further, he has hockey in his blood, curacy of his dad, Mike Sillinger.
Next came the 25th overall pick, Corson Ceulemans, who comes to us from Regina, SK, Canada. He is a defenseman, and will be greatly appreciated, as the club just traded away one of it’s best, Seth Jones.
It is quite obvious that we are in the rebuild stage. However, this doesn’t concern me. Yes, Jones will surely be missed. However, we have several former, fantastic players returning to coach, and help in the front office this upcoming season. In addition, we also still have some of our favorite, seasoned past players. Cam Atkinson is one of those.
Tomorrow, I hope to see us take another goaltender. As we learned last season, they can be injured very easily, and that is how Matiss Kivlenieks received his start. One which came to an end, far too soon.
Draft Day 2021 resumes tomorrow, we’ll keep you posted on drafts, and any other possible trades, which come our way.
