It’s been a rough off season for the Columbus Blue Jackets, but regardless of trades, the most painful stretch has been mourning goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks. It hasn’t been just central to the team either, but spread out across nations, as previous teammates remember him fondly. The latest is Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was a long-time favorite in Columbus, but was traded away last season. In his first full season with the Jets, he has decided to swap his number 13 jersey for that to resemble his late, former goaltender’s. For the 2021-2022 NHL season, he will dawn Kivi’s number 80, in honor of his friend. What a unique, and beautiful thought we can’t wait to see all season long.
