We officially have another defenseman signed to the team 5th Line! A $1.575 Million dollar contract was signed today between Andrew Peeke and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Even though peeks has only played 33 games since he was drafted by the team in 2016, he has scored 6 total points, and kept his penalty minutes to a low 8, total. At only 23, he can add some skill to the game, as well as the ability to grow with the team.
“Andrew is a smart, mobile defenseman, who has the ability to join the rush and make plays in all three zones. He is still a young player, but we are excited to see his continued growth within our organization as he continues to work and earn more playing time.” General Manager of the Blue Jackets, Kekalainen, stated, at the contract announcement. In my mind, it is exciting to see us add new, young defenders. It was sad to see Jones go, but he made clear his desire to leave. Werenski, on the other hand, can’t wait to get started on his six-year contract extension. He can lead, and we’ve given him plenty of young players to shape and mold, which will hopefully be with us for years to come. Andrew Peeke being just one of those notable names.
