A game hasn’t even been played, and we already have a change on Brad Larson’s coaching staff. They originally picked Assistant Coach Sylvain Lefebvre. will no longer hold his given role on the team. Instead, Cleveland Monster’s Coach, Steve McCarthy, will step into the role immediately. The reason given for this move, reports suggest that Lefebvre wouldn’t comply with Covit-19 protocols, set forth by the National Hockey League.
The team released this statement on the matter. “While we are disappointed, we respect that this decision is a personal one for Sylvain and wish him well. We feel fortunate to have an outstanding coach join our club in Steve McCarthy, who has played in this league, won championships as a player and been an important member of our hockey operations department as an assistant coach in Cleveland.” ( https://www.nhl.com/bluejackets/news/columbus-blue-jackets-announce-coaching-staff-changes/c-326129574?fbclid=IwAR3bYETlqTSXjIOR4riLl5FBic2QyQD1OBz8aE-TzRx2vV-a2zuPcji3maM).
At age 40, McCarthy has an extensive resume. He played in the NHL for 8 seasons, and had a total of 55 points during that time. This was over a total of 302 games. He’s been an assistant coach, up north for the Cleveland Monsters, in the AHL, during the last 5 seasons.
We can’t wait to see what he brings to this brand new coaching staff.
