Redskins Biggest Winners Rd 1? – Aaron Kagan

The opportunity for the Washington Redskins to land their new franchise quarterback seemingly fell in their lap via the draft. Dwayne Haskins is an incredible young talent than can possibly be the new face of the franchise for many years to come. If this holds to be true, the team can be very thankful that they did not have had to make a trade to get him at a higher pick.

Being the most productive player in all of college football last season should have proven enough worth to represent a franchise, and I guess it did. Amazingly, the New York Giants passed on him and decided to draft Daniel Jones with the 6th pick. This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Haskins.

In my opinion, the landing spot of Washington will enable him to truly show his talents right away, rather than sit and learn which would be the situation with New York. In addition to making a trade to get back into the first round after the Haskins pick, the Redskins have proven to me as to being the biggest winners on Day 1 of the draft.

Only time will tell, but the sooner the team can find out what they have in Haskins, the better. It is known that Alex Smith will miss the 2019 season, and his future in the NFL is truly unknown. The contract he has is for 3 more years, though I’m not sure how his health situation will affect his eventual return, or retirement.

Let’s see Haskins in training camp, then we will know if he can rise to be the face of the franchise. Actions will speak louder than a draft pick, though it appears that the tangibles as well as possibly the intangibles are there. If you are a fan of this franchise, you should be feeling pretty good at the end of Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
