NBA Award Predictions

The NBA recently release their finalist for their regular-season awards, today we will take a look at each award and who I think will go home with the hardware:

Sixth Man: It’s easy to pick Lou Will as the sixth man role is one that he is synonymies with but I think this year Dennis Schroder will be the recipient. The OKC Thunder has been one of the more surprising teams this NBA season and Schroder has played a significant part in their success. His stats for this season have been quite impressive, he is averaging 18.9 points (best amongst players coming off the bench), 3.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Also, he has shown how effective he can be during clutch time. In the final five minutes of regulation or overtime where he has scored b grand total of 59 points while consistently being part of Billy Donovan’s closing line ups.

Rookie of the Year: With the hype surrounding Zion Williamson we believed that he would have been the runaway favorite for the award but Ja Morant has made his case for this years ROY. Morant leads all rookies in points, assists, and double-doubles this season and has exceeded Memphis expectations for the season as they are hanging onto the 8th playoff in the Western Conference.

Coach of The Year: With the departure of Kawhi Leonard from the Toronto Raptors it seemed that they were heading towards a throwaway season but that is not the case. Nick Nurse has kept the defending Champs relevant in terms of championship contention. The Raps were on their way to a 59 win season despite losing Leonard and using a bevy of lineups throughout the year.

Most Improved Player: Last year’s rookie of the year is now on pace to receive another award in his second year. There was no sophomore slump for Doncic and the electric star is proving that he is continuing to get better. Donic has improved in most statistical categories averaging 29 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. The only category that saw a dip was his 3PT %, last year he was shooting 32.7% and this year he is now at 31.6%.

Defensive player of the year: I predict that Anthony Davis will be the NBA’s DoPY. Davis has been named to NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2018 and to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2015 and 2017. Davis is currently 3rd in blocks in the league averaging 2.3 per game. The Lakers are currently 3rd in defensive efficiency in the NBA.

Most Valuable Player: Lebron James is in his 17th year and has proved why after his comeback season off of injury. At 35 years old Lebron was averaging lead leading numbers with 10.6 assists, 25.7 points, and 7.9 rebounds a game before the league wide break due to Covid-19. Also, the Lakers have clinched the number 1 spot in the Western Conference for the playoffs.
