Valtteri Bottas won the pole position for the Eifel Grand Prix on the Nürburgring in Germany. His quickest lap was 1:25.269, which was enough to beat his teammate Lewis Hamilton by 0.256 seconds. Max Verstappen with Red Bull was the only one besides the Merc boys with a good chance at clinching the pole today. However, the Dutch driver complained about the severe lack of grip in Q3, and his time was good only enough for P3.

Charles Leclerc with Ferrari qualified 4th, which was a pretty decent result for the Monegasque driver. Red Bull’s Alex Albon finished 5th, ahead of the two Renault drivers. Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon placed 6th and 7th, respectively, followed by McLaren’s Lando Norris in P8. Sergio Perez with Racing Point and Carlos Sainz with McLaren finished off the top 10 starting positions for the Eifel Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel with Ferrari did not manage to do a quick enough lap to get into the top 10. Although Vettel driver finished 11th, this result was rather disappointing for him, as he will not have a good starting position in front of German audience. Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat qualified 12th and 13th, respectively. Antonio Giovinazzi placed in P14 for Alfa Romeo, while Haas’ Kevin Magnussen finished last in P15.

Q1 went without major surprises. Romain Grosjean with Haas was the first eliminated driver in P16. Right behind him, the two Williams drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi finished 17th and 18th, respectively. Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen could not find the right settings today, which frustratingly left him in P19 starting position for tomorrow. Nico Hulkenberg had to once again substitute for a Racing Point driver. This time, however, Lance Stroll will be the one to miss on a Grand Prix weekend due to health concerns. Unfortunately for Nico, the team did not give him a timely enough notice to be able to complete some practice laps before the session. Therefore, the German driver qualified last today and will start tomorrow’s race in P20.
