2020 NHL Draft Dates Set

This is big news we’ve been waiting for, and now we finally know when the NHL Draft will be held for 2020!  As with most sporting events this year, this one had been postponed, as well as the remainder of the season.  However, now with the Conference Finals in mid-play, we can look forward to the next event to take place after the Stanley Cup has been won, the NHL Draft.

Draft day 1 will be held on October 6th and will feature only round 1, we don’t have TV listings as of yet, but it will start a 7 PM Eastern Time.  October 7th we will conclude the Draft with rounds 2 through 7 at 11:30 AM Eastern Time.   The Draft was due to take place in Bell Centre, Montreal Canada but was postponed at the end of March, due to the pandemic of Covid-19.  The original plan was the 26th and 27th of June 2020, with Free Agency to open on the 1st of July 2020.  The Draft will now be held just over 3 months later with Free Agency now scheduled to open 2 days after on the 9th of October 2020.

As of now, we also only know about half the lineup for round 1 as well, with the Rangers having the first overall pick this year, the other teams we know now are as follows.

1. New York Rangers
2. Los Angeles Kings
3. Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks)
4. Detroit Red Wings
5. Ottawa Senators
6. Anaheim Ducks
7. New Jersey Devils
8. Buffalo Sabres
9. Minnesota Wild
10. Winnipeg Jets
11. Nashville Predators
12. Florida Panthers
13. Carolina Hurricanes (from Toronto Maple Leafs)
14. Edmonton Oilers
15. Toronto Maple Leafs (from Pittsburgh Penguins)

The raffle for draft spots has yielded some teams a great advantage, a few having more than 1 pick, while others have traded players, or other advantages for picks as well.  It will be interesting to see not only who these teams select, as to continue building their team, but also who will round out the remaining picks of 16-31.  This we will have to wait a little while to find out as that draft will not take place until after the 2020 Stanley cut has been won.  Once we know you’ll know here at Skullking Sports, and be here on the 6th and 7th of October as dreams come true, and we induct a new class of NHL Players, who we can’t wait to follow into their professional hockey careers!
