Sidney Crosby Helps Penguins Win in Overtime over Capitals

Sidney Crosby always steps up in the clutch when his number his called upon. Just 1:11 into the overtime session with the game tied at four, he scored the game-winning overtime goal off a rebound and the Pittsburgh Penguins took down the Washington Capitals by a final score of 5-4 in overtime. The goal was assisted by Kris Letang and Jake Guentzel.

This was the second time in three nights that the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby has a lot to do with it. He has been effective in all four games played to start the season.

These last two wins were huge. Pittsburgh appears to be heading on the right track. Washington is still in good hands at this point in time. They struck three times in the first-period. Lars Eller scored 4:55 into the game. It was assisted by T.J. Oshie and Richard Panik.

At the 16:52 mark in the second-period, Colton Sceviour tied the game at one for Pittsburgh. It was assisted by Teddy Blueger and Kasperi Kapanen. This was his first game this season after missing the first three games due to quarantine. Head Coach Mike Sullivan is trying to get him up to game speed. He will eventually go on the first line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. Evan Rodrigues will most likely get demoted to the fourth-line sooner rather than later.

Tom Wilson scored the other two goals for the Washington Capitals in the first-period at the 16:58 mark and also at the 19:43 mark. Alex Ovechkin assisted on his first goal of the period and John Carlson assisted on his second goal of the period.

Jake Guentzel scored a power-play goal just 5:45 into the second-period for Pittsburgh. It was assisted by Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby.

At the 8:16 mark in the second-period, Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a goal for Washington and it was assisted by Daniel Sprong and Jakub Vrana.

The play that changed the entire game was in the second-period when the Capitals had a 5-on-3 power play. Casey DeSmith cleared the zone and Teddy Blueger scored a back-handed goal shorthanded at the 15:07 mark.

Pittsburgh tied the game at four on the power play by Evgeni Malkin at the 17:15 mark and the rest of this game was history. It was assisted by Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby.

Malkin awoke from his hibernation. This is another good win for this hockey team. These two teams will play each other six more times this season.

Vitek Vanecek finished the game with 25 saves for the Washington Capitals.

Casey DeSmith finished the game with 22 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Washington Capitals (2-0-2) next game will be at home on Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres (1-3-0).

The Pittsburgh Penguins (2-2-0) next game will be at home on Friday night against the New York Rangers (1-2-0).
